Manchester City have reportedly snubbed Manchester United’s request to give Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo a lift to the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils asked City if Garnacho and Mainoo could join City’s eight-strong contingent of nominees on their private jet flight to Paris for the event on Monday. However, the Citizens reportedly said there was no room on the flight and alternative travel plans will have to be arranged.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Garnacho, 20, and Mainoo, 19, have been nominated for the Kopa Trophy – which is awarded to the best player under the age of 21 from the previous season. Meanwhile, City’s Rodri, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and more, are up for the main Golden Ball award. Incidentally, United’s travel plan is part of a wider cost-cutting plan implemented by minority owners INEOS.
